UL 508 and UL 60947-4-1
UL 508 was one of the most important standards to recognise in America for many years, but this standard was phased out and replaced by UL 60947-4-1.
The transition was brought in to harmonize the standards from UL and other entities including the Canadian Standards Association (CSA) and the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) in Europe. It’s worth noting that UL 508 and UL 60947-4-1 are largely the same in a technical sense but do incorporate important national differences in order to harmonise and create an international standard.
BS 7671 (IET Wiring Regulations) sets the standards for electrical installation in the UK and many other countries. The IET co-publishes BS 7671 with the British Standards Institution (BSI) and is the authority on electrical installation.
Other bodies have issued applicable
standards as well, such as IEC 60204-1, which
relates to the safety of machinery and electrical equipment of machines. Given
